In 2021 Rotary International recognised and adopted the protection of the Environment as its 7th Area of Focus

The Rotary Club of St Peters, offers grants each year to fund sustainable projects that will make a positive difference to the local environment.

2025 - East Adelaide Primary School.  $5,000
1. East Adelaide School – Year 5 and 6 Bush Tucker Club
The project aims to develop a previously uncared for area of the school grounds into an environmental space featuring a native plants garden with a Bush Tucker space, planning assistance provided by a local Kaurna Elder.

Enhancement: The garden will introduce a variety of native plants, which can support local wildlife, including birds, insects, and other fauna.

Cultural Education: The garden provides a space for students and visitors to learn about Kaurna culture and traditional uses of native plants. This fosters respect and understanding of Indigenous knowledge and practices.

Sustainability: By growing native plants, the garden promotes sustainable practices. Native plants typically require less water and maintenance, reducing the environmental footprint.

Local Food Production: Integration with the school canteen will allow for the use of fresh, locally grown ingredients, reducing the need for transported goods and supporting a farm-to-table approach.

Environmental Awareness: The project encourages students to engage with environmental issues and understandBiodiversity the importance of preserving native flora and fauna.

The project was co-funded with an additional grant of $2,500 by the Norwood Payneham & St Peters Council
